EDIT EDIT: Featured in EqD Drawfriend 653 image 19
EDIT: Fixed the shading...a bit...in the BG
Not my best. I wasn't focusing on the quality of Pinkie OR the BG or the shading or anything... Just the water. I was originally just playing with this realistic water tutorial I found (just to have fun) instead of doing paperwork (which i still haven't done 0-0) and it....somehow...grew ambitious....
How'd i do on the water?
So, let me give this a huge stinking repeat: I DON'T NORMALLY DRAW THIS TERRIBLE. EVERYTHING IN THIS PIC IS OFF...THE STYLE, THE BG, SHADING, EVERYTHING. I DON'T NORMALLY DRAW THIS BAD. I was JUST focusing on the water.
I like the shadows that were implemented, but the darkness in the background really takes a toll when you see how well lit the foreground is, especially when you see that there is no light source. The water effect was done exceptionally well and the reflection was executed perfectly. If there was one thing that I could change, it would be lo darken very small parts of the middle-ground, to make more of a barrier to the lighness and darkness. In conclusion, the piece looks great with almost no flaws at all. -Please take no offense, as when I write critiques, I show NO favoritism but tend to sugarcoat a few things.
I would like to start by saying that the layout here is brilliant. It give the viewer a feeling of standing on the other side of the pool or even in the middle of it, and looking out towards pinkie, which instantly adds depth to the piece.
The water does indeed look realistic, almost to the point of making the rest of the picture fade in comparison. I'm not sure if this is accidental or purposeful, but it draws the eye to the reflection rather nicely.
One thing I might mention is that the background looks a lot more dark and bleak than it did in the show. This could be considered both good and bad for the visual, as it gives no balance to the bright colors used in the pool, but does allow Pinkie to stand out very nicely.
Overall a wonderful picture, with that fun, expressive, and original style easily recognized as Yuji!
Very interesting style. I don't agree with what you've said everything about this picture being terrible other than the water, either, but I'm not going to argue with you; I know we're all our own worst critics, and if you see room for improvement, I'm certainly not gonna tell you it isn't there.
The water, though? That looks intriguing, and it was that what made me click through to this picture from EqD. All those hues, from sea green to turquoise, and those caustics -- that immediately drew my attention.
do you by any chane have a link to said water tutorial? xD; been looking for one everywhere and this looks exactly like what i need. this is awesome, by the way c:
